Food and feeding
In the aquarium Tambraparni barb is very greedy and will accept all foods offered. Use quality flake or small pellets for the staple diet but vary this with treats of blood worm and brine shrimp twice weekly.
Origin
Asia; Tambraparni barb is found in the middle section of the Tambraparni River Basins located in India.
Sexing
Adult males are more colourful and thinner than the females. In breeding season, the males will display white filaments around their mouth.
Breeding
Puntius tambraparniei are a very easy fish to breed. Use a tank that is filled with neutral water and add spawning mops or Java moss. This barb is a group spawner so add several of each sex to the tank. Immediately after spawning has finished, remove the parents to prevent them eating the eggs and after 24-48 hours they should hatch. The fry can be fed on Infusoria for the first few days, when they are slightly larger, they will accept micro worms or newly hatched brine shrimp.

The expected life span for Puntius tambraparniei is 5-8 years.
Short description
Good lighting with a dark substrate will bring out the best colouration of these fish. Keep Tambraparni barbs in a small group of at least 8-10 members; this will reduce aggression towards other tank mates.
